South of the QEW versus north of the 407
Burlington's housing splits roughly by age. Close to the lake, around Downtown Burlington, Roseland and parts of Aldershot, you find older bungalows, storey-and-a-half houses and postwar semis. Those homes tend to have one narrow staircase to the bedrooms, a side door that is the only sensible way out, and basements that were finished long after the stairs were built. A king box spring or a sleeper sofa may have to be turned, tipped or taken apart to get down those stairs.

Downsizing from a large Burlington house
